2,441.60 ha
Alamil is a large-scale cattle breeding and fattening property, with an excellent and highly valued underground water supply, located in the highly regarded Field region near Meningie in South Australia?s Upper South East. The area is well known for producing quality prime cattle and lambs,
plus being sought after cropping and hay producing country.
The property spans 2,441.6 hectares (6033 acres) with pastures made up of lucerne, lucerne/veldt and veldt.
Being a predominant grazing/fattening property, stock numbers comfortably carry between 1,600 and 2,000 quality Angus cattle. Weaned steers are finished for marketing and about 400 joined heifers are retained on the property up to calving. Cattle are sold on hooks to Thomas Foods
International at the nearby Murray Bridge abattoirs and Teys at Naracoorte, or by live weight direct to Hardwicks, Thomas Foods, Woolworths and Coles. Cattle are also sold to feedlots and for live export. Prime lambs are often sold to Thomas Foods International, Woolworths, Coles, JBS
Bordertown, Midfield and Hardwicks.
A stand-out feature of Alamil is the excellent underground water supply. There are two constructed wedge holes that supply good quality stock water through a modern watering system with a remote leak detection unit providing reliable monitoring and feedback. Both water supplies are equipped
with a solar pump that produces around 20,000 litres of water per day. The watering system is considered unique in this area and has successfully increased water supplies and reduced running costs. The property is also backed up by mains water if required.
The country consists of flat to gently undulating, sandy loam over clay and limestone, which is regarded as excellent lucerne country. Existing pastures are lucerne, lucerne/veldt and veldt, with around 70 percent sown to Flairdale Lucerne. There is also a quality rubble pit located on the
property. Fencing is in good condition with a mix of barbs, cyclone and pine posts, along with 50 percent witha single electric wire with a solar powered electric fence unit. A large portion of fencing has beenreplaced in recent years. ?Alamil? has a four-bedroom stone home with a good sized living area and dining area, along with atwo-car garage.
There is an implement shed with a cement floor (18m x 9m), machinery shed (15m x 9m), hay shed (15m x 6m) which is enclosed on three sides and a shearing shed currently not used. The property has a set of steel cattle yards with crush, concrete raceway, round yard and two holding
yards with water. There is also a second set of steel frame cattle yards with a crush and concrete race.
?Alamil? is operated largely as a finishing block for the vendor?s Willalooka property ?Napier?. The vendor has a good quality Angus herd. Weaned steers are finished for marketing. Around 400 weaned heifers are joined annually and kept up to two years of age, just prior to the point of calving.
Cattle numbers can vary between 1,600 to 2,000 head, depending on seasonal conditions and demand. Additional cattle are often purchased for fattening when numbers and seasons permit. One of the features on ?Alamil? is the valuable supply of underground water. The vendor has created
two wedge holes which supply good quality stock water connected into the watering system. The Northern Wedge Hole supply is 10 m deep x 5m wide x 10 m long. The water quality is recorded at 1,600ppm. The wedge hold is equipped with a solar pump producing 20,000 litres per day.
The Southern Wedge Hole supply is 12 m deep x 15 m wide x 20 m long. The water quality is recorded at 5,500 ppm. This water supply is also equipped with a solar pump producing 20,000 litres per day. Both wedge hole solar pumps are pumping to 2 x 20,000 litre elevated poly tanks on a rubble base. The modern water system has been set up with a remote leak detection unit that enables the vendor to monitor usage per hour, usage per day, tank levels and salinity levels. A text message is receivedevery morning providing updates.
There is a back-up of mains water supply, used as required. There is two inch blue line poly pipe to tanks, with 2 inch green line poly pipe from tanks to the troughs. All troughs are gravity fed. This watering system is unique to the area and considered a valuable resource which increases supply
and considerably reduces running costs.
